Early Life and Education

Granville Whitelaw Pine, the man who would become Robert Pine, was born on July 10, 1941, in New York City to Martin Pine, a patent attorney, and Virginia Pine. With a mixed heritage of English and German ancestry, Pine spent his formative years in Scarsdale, Westchester County, where he first developed his passion for acting in high school plays.

However, after graduating in 1959, Pine pursued a different path, enrolling in Wesleyan University in Ohio to study pre-medicine. It was during a summer break spent on Nantucket Island that his artistic abilities caught the attention of playwright Robert Anderson, who encouraged him to explore acting professionally.
